'My Paula' is the debut effort from Blackaby. Led by multi-instrumentalist William Blackaby, the newcomers recall the bedroom brilliance of Alex G, and the lo-fi nonchalance of Happyness, while conjuring a raw Blur-esque atmosphere, as William slurs "Give me a reason to get out of my room / Give me a reason to jump into your pool". Recorded in London's Canada Water by Jake Miller in the summer of 2017, this attention-grabbing new cut is the first in a series and comes alongside Blackaby's first live outing in support of Dama Scout at The Waiting Room on 31 Jan. -G.O'B
